Many patients with vision problems heartily embrace the idea of enjoying vision correction without having to wear eyeglasses or contact lenses. Not all of these patients, however, are good candidates for PRK or Lasik surgery, the two standard surgeries used to alter the way the cornea of the eye refracts light. If that describes you, don't fret -- because here at Optikos Optometry, we offer an advanced corneal reshaping technique known as orthokeratology, or Ortho-K. This non-surgical technique can produce changes to the way your cornea refracts light.
Laser assisted in situ keratomileusis, commonly referred to as LASIK, is a corrective alternative to glasses or contact lenses. Like glasses or contact lenses, LASIK is a method for treating refractive conditions including nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. At Optikos Optometry, Dr. Chang provides pre- and post-operative exams for LASIK and other eye procedures. Call (213) 386-0001 today to schedule an examination to see whether you are a candidate for LASIK.
Comprehensive Eye Examinations
We believe a routine eye exam is important in maintaining healthy eyes and developing a vision history to keep track of each patient’s needs. Our goal is to provide you with an extraordinary eye exam experience with our skilled doctors and state-of-the-art equipment.
Medical Eye Care
Not only do our doctors provide eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions, but they also evaluate for various eye conditions such as a pink eye, contact lens-induced infections, and dry eyes. They are qualified to diagnose and treat eye diseases and when necessary, will direct you to the right specialist to receive optimal care.
Retinal Photography using Optos Daytona Plus
Daytona plus provides images of 200 degrees or up to 82% of the retina in a single, non-contact optomap image. This procedure assists your doctors in early detection and follow-up care of many disorders, including glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, macular degeneration, and other vision-threatening conditions. The image will be stored in our databased and can be compared with images at future examinations.
The Humphrey FDT is a special automated procedure used to perform perimetry, a test that measures peripheral vision. This simple and fast test can detect visual field loss due to a variety of ocular diseases, including glaucoma and optic nerve diseases.
Our office provides various brands of soft, multifocal, and rigid gas permeable contact lenses. Our doctors determine the proper contact lens and prescription to ensure the best comfort and vision based on your visual demands. We make sure we are up to date with newest contact lenses so we can provide patients with the latest and greatest materials and technology.
Specialty Contact Lenses
Ortho-K is the fitting of specially designed gas permeable contact lenses that you wear overnight. While you are asleep, the lenses gently reshape the front surface of your eye (cornea) so you can see clearly the following day after you remove the lenses when you wake up. SCLERAL CONTACT LENS
Scleral contacts are large diameter gas permeable contact lenses specially designed to completely over the cornea and rest on the white of the eye (sclera). In doing so, scleral lenses replace the irregular cornea with a smooth optical surface to correct vision problems caused by keratoconus, and other corneal irregularities. This irregular shape will make your vision very distorted and blurry and often glasses and soft contact lenses won’t work well.
Laser Surgery Co-Management
We provide evaluation and referrals for patients interested in LASIK surgery. We also offer pre- and post-operative care for patients undergoing surgery. Our goal is to help you attain the clearest vision possible using advanced technologies.
